When is an Breast Augmentation Implant Too Big?
Most women find that the ideal feminine contour means having large, voluminous breasts and a slender waistline. Those who have a small, asymmetrical bustline often opt to undergo a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure such as breast augmentation. However, a common concern is the size of the implants – just how big is too big? This can be answered when several factors have been taken into consideration, which include the patient’s anatomy, physical health, and her desired look.
However, with the recent coverage of reality television star Heidi Montag’s surgeries, many women are realizing that bigger isn’t always better. It is all about proportion and what is best for the individual patient. A large implant can balance a larger body frame, but a smaller one may not be suitable for the same implant size. Nonetheless, patient satisfaction is my ultimate goal and I have had patients who wish to receive large implants. If I find that it can be done safely, patients may undergo a gradual increase, which would involve two to three cycles of skin stretching. Safety takes priority when undergoing breast surgery at my practice, which is why patients must be fully informed of the procedure and its options.
